Snow

That is snow on my car. Snow fell in huge flakes but it was not cold enough for it to accumulate on the ground. Walter took some pictures of the snowflakes coming down. Now the sun is out and any traces of snow is gone. Should have saved some in the freezer.

The dogs were not impressed with the snow. They looked out the door and then resumed playing in the living room. They have short coats, they were not designed for this weather.


Seems that Jake does not find Ballard Street to be the nirvana that I envision. I like artist's ability to capture the Ballard Street style, down to the lighter ink.

The wise person that Mary quotes is the Dalai Lama. He was not mentioned by name because he would probably be annoyed at Mary Worth for twisting the spirit of his philosophy. Silly Toby, you don't need religion in order to be a meddling biddy that mistakes platitudes and unwanted advice for kindness.

Mary has lived in Charterstone for years and no one knows about her background?

This could foreshadow some interesting back story but since this is Mary Worth probably not.

I posted a poll about Mary Worth's possible religion. Likely, a very white bread protestant religion. I included Rastafarianism for fun.

Stop Centering Paragraph Text

This morning I was assaulted by a bit of design ignorance. I was reading a website (linked from Snopes.com) that a woman set up to document some chemical burns from some Chinese made flip flops that she bought at Wal-Mart. The woman is a photographer and judging by the photos pretty good at it but damn, the writing was awful and she centered everything. Every picture, line of text, links, everything was centered. It became quite unbearable to read.

So here is a bit of layout advice from a professional: Do not center everything! Confine the centering to titles and appropriate graphic elements. Do not center paragraph text, lists, and other types of text.

Look above for example. I chose to center the comics to get around Blogger's weird word wrapping but note that the accompanying text is left justified and the reader's eye can easily find the beginning of the next line.

Think about the reader once in a while when laying out a website.

Sometimes, I feel like Dilbert in the last panel after going through yet another anti-racism/ anti-oppression/ embrace diversity workshop or presentation.

In the United States, the dentists wear masks to protect the patient. I would think that the set up in the last panel would make access to the teeth more difficult.

Who hasn't dreamt of this happening?

You might be a tad obsessed with Mary Worth if you find yourself attempting to imitate the poses as drawn. The hand pose in the second panel is doable but a tad painful. No, I can't draw hands any better. I know alumni from the University of Texas (t.u. for us Aggies) and other schools with that shade of orange as a school color would love to know where Dr. Drew purchases his lab coats. The matching pants can be found easily.

Caddyshack

I've felt the same way myself. A nice reboot would do the trick. Better yet, a reformat with a nice clean reinstall of the important files.

Caddyshack reference! The dog is probably contemplating an unnamed phenomenon in which something pop cultural gets referenced or mentioned often for no reason. For example, Caddyshack came out in the 1980's - this comic is the first reference and then later a friend makes a reference to Caddyshack and then even later a newscaster uses something from Caddyshack as a metaphor. The Onion even did an article about this phenomenon. Can anyone think of a good term to describe it?

SIX WEEKS! SIX @#$%! WEEKS and THIS is where the arc ends!?! In the unseen third panel something explodes. It took SIX WEEKS to get to this point! Damn it, somebody better die! Damn, no guilt since everyone has forgiven each other and themselves. SIX WEEKS! I hate this comic but I can't stop reading it.

Comic women

Looks like Harriet has had some work done. Maybe she used her third eye as stuffing for her top.

Too funny. As a kid, I remember watching a Popeye cartoon that featured the scenario of a woman U.S. President. Olive Oyl wore a pants suit and high heeled shoes and she looked good. Rather attractive according to my memory. She also exuded confidence in the way she moved about in the Oval Office. Popeye sort of stood off to the side. He wore a suit instead of the usual sailor clothes. I checked the Big Cartoon Database but came up empty. Could be the product of a fevered childhood imagination. I have trouble distinguishing childhood dreams, memories and T.V. shows. I used to think the "The Bugaloos" were one of my weird childhood dreams until I found outside confirmation. The work of Sid and Marty Krofft had that effect on a lot of people.

The Popeye sequence I think I watched was musical with Olive Oyl doing most of the singing. I'm sure it was a Fleischer produced rather than Hanna-Barbara. Does anyone else remember this?
