No TV: Day 1

Ate dinner at the table instead of on the couch. We compromised and listened to the Daily Show and part of the Colbert Report. I did sit at part of the table where I could not see the TV so I let Walter know that he can turn on the picture if he wanted to watch. He chose not to.

I have a bit of a temptation on March 29. Family Guy will feature the Star Trek: The Next Generation cast as guest voices. They will play themselves. I love Family Guy, I love ST:NG. Talk about potential nerdgasm.

Would it violate my Lenten experiment if I watched it on hulu.com?

Icons

Funny out of context panel:
Get your Terry Bryson icon:

I wonder if Terry Farrell from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine served as the model for Terry Bryson?

Get a befuddled Toby Cameron icon:

Mary, we need to talk.

Yes, Mary, we need to talk. Talk about you trying to determine the pace of some one's grieving process. How dare you! The funeral was a few days ago. It's one thing to offer a bit of advice or do an act of kindness but this is way out of your league, Mary. Go sailing and enjoy dinner at the Bum Boat and leave the grief counseling to professionals or just allow Ron to go through the grieving process at his pace. Don't meddle. The grieving process is no place for a meddler. I hope Jeff's intervention is successful.

Bizarro did this gag months ago. It was funnier, made sense and the characters were accurately depicted. Who is the guy in the blue shirt and mustache? Disappointing coming from Mother Goose & Grimm.

The Mark of Mary Worth

The foreground man in panel one looked forward to his sandwich so much that he started eating it before putting down the paper bag or pulling out whatever else was in the bag. Foreground man derives a great deal of pleasure from that round edible object.
Based on the number of background and foreground people in the public spaces, Santa Royale must be located on the planet Gideon. The blood disease is working slowly.

Regardless of the size of the Santa Royale population there is always space for the Moy & Giella.

They say dogs can smell fear...

...which leads me to believe a lot of people must have fear coming out of their butts. Quote from Mark at the Shoebox Blog. It made me laugh out loud.

Counselor Troi is either on Riker's right off panel or getting a box of Junior Mints from concessions. [Warning: Major ST:NG geekery on display] They visited this movie theater during the third season as evidenced by the uniforms, Dr. Crusher's hair style, and Worf's ridges and hairstyle. They also carried the Type One phasers into the theater. I wonder how the vibrate setting works on a phaser? Does the phaser vibrate or the person receiving the blast? Picard uses his captain's prerogative to use both arm rests. Data cannot feel irritation but Geordi seems a bit annoyed.

Slither a UU, perhaps?

Garfield minus Garfield is a funny blog featuring Garfield comic strips with Garfield and his dialogue removed. The removal of Garfield sometimes makes a funnier strip or a sadder one. For this particular strip Garfield's thought balloons should remain.

Mary Worth and Me recaps the simple actions and small words that led to this couple getting together. Summary: Mary Worth is a home wrecker. Mary Worth is a Dark Lord of the Sith and has chosen Toby as her apprentice.

Nice to see the pool make a brief appearance at the pool party. The toy bunny has more life and soul in it than the people and it scares me.

Zippy, you are in none of those strips. Your surroundings are too well drawn.

Like, engage, dude.

An image for the cooler temperatures: I got this from some one's Flickr photostream but I don't remember the user name or the location. Good Photoshop work. The image made me laugh.

Curtis' younger brother makes a cameo appearance in Family Circus.

I don't get the joke. I want to get it. Somebody help me, please.

Loki woke me up last night so that I would let him out. He grabbed one of the legs of my pajama pants and pulled in an effort to make me go to the back door faster. This only resulted in a half-asleep Linda attempting to walk off balance. I walked into the hallway wall. When Loki, 75 pounds of Bullmastiff/ Pit Bull mix with the head the size of a regulation volleyball, has to go out at night he has to carry something outside with him. A stuffed animal, a toy or in the case of last night, a towel that was on the kitchen floor. He has attempted to drag his bed outside if he could not find anything else. I draw the line there. He has to drag this stuff out but does not feel the need to take anything back inside. At 6:30 this morning, I traipsed barefooted across a cold, wet backyard to retrieve the towel he dragged out. I don't understand the reason for Loki's behavior but I find it sort of amusing.

During the winter break, I will make a trip in the backyard and pick up all the stuff Loki has dragged out and wash what I can. It will all end up in the backyard eventually.

Friday's Cartoon

I got the pattern from one my 1971 Sears catalog pages.

I finished reading Star Trek: Titan - The Sword of Damocles. Good book, mentally challenging in some places.

I will skip the "Black Friday" stuff but I still need to go out and run some errands. Errands that will keep me far away from shopping centers. I refuse to get up at the butt crack of dawn on my day off so I should miss most of the consumerism.

I don't get into the holiday spirit until Radio M*A*S*H

Vera Shields, Jedi Master

Vera attempts to use her Jedi powers on Mary Worth. This irritates the geriatric dark lord of the Sith. She will have to teach Vera a lesson about the power of the dark side of the Force.

What has she got under that desk?
Besides, a true Trek geek would have listed Klingon as a second language. There's an institute and translations of several books.

It's funny in a surreal sense but this is Heathcliff. So what's the gag?

Walter Koenig

Today is Walter Koenig's birthday. He is 71. Below are some funny images of Chekov from Star Trek (images from echosphere.net)

I know, he also played Bester on Babylon 5 but I did not have a source for funny images and icons from that show and I did not feel like looking.
Happy Birthday.

One Shred of Hope

Better than 9 inch nails. Ba-da-bump!

Momma hoped her youngest son is a drag queen?

As a Star Trek fan I'm obligated to point out Trek sightings in the comics page. A very poor caricature of young William Shatner.

99 Bottle of Beer on the Wall

This depicts my meditation yesterday. The monkey mind was going wild. Get back on the cushion and try again. Or not try. The cartoon is funnier given Buddhism's admonition against consuming substances that cloud the mind.

News Flash! Everyone's teen years were painful. Dawn does not know how to flirt and is starting to scare Dr. Drew Corey. He has moved from the seat next to Dawn and moved to the seat across from her. Even scarier is that people have come in, eaten and left since this dinner has gone on. People disappeared between panels.

Proud auntie moment: my older nephew was mentioned in Dale Campbell's 2007 Texas Football magazine as a prospect to watch in the next high school football season. I bought a copy of the magazine and scanned the cover and page he was mentioned. I will send it to the rest of the family. We are all proud of him. I'm sure he will live up to the "hype".

I was the only person in the Barnes and Noble that day that did not buy the last Harry Potter book. I bought a Star Trek book, an anthology of Tales from the Captain's Table.

Cramps and Comics

Visited the mothers this past weekend, mine on Saturday and Walter's on Sunday.

Codeine enhanced Sunday's visit. I attempted to kill some pain - some of the worst menstrual cramps ever. I took large doses to kill the pain. The pain went away after I took 1,000 mg of Ibuprofen. My liver will suffer but at least the pain stopped.

The Bible says women have those pains because of Eve's sin. Something is seriously fucked up about that logic.

------------------------------------------------

What the hell is happening in panel 2? My artistic skills are lacking but damn it Giella, you are a professional! Is this what cartoonist Alzheimer's looks like? Perspective goes out the window. I'm glad that both characters are female. The character arrangement in panel 2 is making my head hurt. Curses upon you, Giella!

Huh!? Explain this joke and I'll send you some original A Perfect World artwork. Seriously, I'm running out of room to store the pages and I really want to understand this joke.

This joke would have been really hilarious in 1991 (Star Trek VI - The Undiscovered Country) or maybe in 1994 (Star Trek: Generations or Star Trek: Oh, Look Dramatic Cinematic Lighting!). What prompted this gag? The remastered original series (totally cool), James Doohan's missing ashes, the third anniversary of Enterprise's cancellation, rumors of a Star Trek movie prequel? Why this gag now?

Janeway! JANEWAY!?!

Janeway? JANEWAY!?! The correct answer is Picard. Even the Amish agree that Picard is the best Star Trek captain.

Janeway. Geez, it's any wonder Kathy's head did not explode. Janeway. Gads. Does Kathy even have any respect for this guy anymore? You know it's Janeway. Ha! You know nothing! My god, that response is so wrong on so many levels.

Janeway was a good Star Trek captain but not the best. Kate Mulgrew is a fine actress.

Janeway, gah, now there is a response to ensure many more years of celibacy. Buddy announces that he is too insecure in his manhood to admit admiration for a character of the same sex.

THIS IS CETI ALPHA SIX!

I've had the urge to say that all day. Not just say it but to say it like Ricardo Monteblan. No reason. I cannot think of a scenario where quoting that bit of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan would make sense.

I could have called my husband and just shouted that but he is at work and his superiors expect him to work during work hours. My superiors are a bit more flexible about that. One of the reasons I don't just quit to find something more fulfilling.

KHAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!
