Race Photos

Photos are out of order.
Hooray! Beer! I was surprised to learn that parts of Texas still have blue laws. In Corpus Christi, when serving beer before noon it must be served with food. In the information packet runners were informed that they must have a pizza in their possession before approaching the beer table and to bring an ID if age is an issue. Alas, that is no longer an issue for me.
Finished!

Racing down the home stretch.

I don't know why my left wrist behaves that way while running.

Racing toward the finish line.
Over halfway there. Beer, here I come!

Catch me if you can!

Maybe they can.

Approaching the halfway point and pleasantly surprised to find Walter taking photos. He snuck around some traffic cones to get here. There goes that left wrist again.

I'm getting the hang of this running thing.
Walter has posted all the photos that he took at the race on his Flickr account. Now he can post the other pictures he took.

I started the tracking a minute before crossing the start and continued tracking a minute after crossing the finish. On the flat sections I easily maintained a 11:00 min/mile or less.

The official results are not posted yet.

Harbor Half Marathon

I did a trial run on Saturday to prepare for my race this weekend. I ran 13.24 miles in 2:26:49. I maintained an average pace of 11'06 min/mile or 5.4 mph. That pace was not too difficult to maintain. I set my BIMActive pace monitor to 11'36 min/ mile. I will keep that setting for the actual race. I might push a bit harder on the second half of the race depending on how I feel and the conditions but unless it is unusually hot and humid then I should finish in under 2 and a 1/2 hours quite easily.

The hard part will be the trip to and from Corpus Christi.

Exercise Log: September 15 - 20

This week I ran and biked 23.36 miles, burned 2386.7 calories and weigh 147.3 pounds.

Monday: ran 5.42 miles in 1:01:34
Tuesday: biked 3.15 miles in 13:48
Wednesday: ran 4.48 miles in 48:41
Thursday: ran 4.60 miles in 50:19
Saturday: ran 5.71 miles in 1:05:00

Last two weeks I've skipped my Friday workout. Two weeks ago, I spent Friday preparing for Hurricane Ike and yesterday I went grocery shopping with Walter and intended to do some exercise when we got home. Instead I watched two hours of Star Trek: Voyager. Lately, on the Friday evenings that I have worked out I really had to push myself to go to the gym. Maybe a bit of boredom has set in or my body is signaling that I need more rest.

I might skip gym on Friday evenings and walk the dog instead. I have long runs the next three Saturdays in preparation for the Harbor Half Marathon.

I deviated from the plan listed last week because I started training for the Harbor Half Marathon in Corpus Christi. The race is October 19.

I'm using a training plan from Runner's World. One inputs a time from a race, then distance to train for, then training intensity, weeks to train and how many miles currently training. I inputted my Run Thru the Vines 5K time. The paces that were generated seem really slow (I've been doing quite of bit of intervals and acceleration but for only 30 minutes; the Wednesday tempo pace was not difficult) but starting off too fast got to me in San Antonio and the Armadillo Dash. I will try my best to stick to the paces on the training plan and maybe I can get through the Harbor Half without sputtering the last 4 miles.

I need to wake up early to run on Saturdays. I did this first long run on the treadmill and worried more about making 6 miles in the alloted time rather than staying on pace. The gym is never crowded on Saturday so I could split up my run but I do need some road time. I can always take a nap after an early Saturday morning run.

Exercise Log: June 16 - 21

This week I walked, biked and ran 21.34 miles, burned 1879.7 calories and weigh 148 pounds. I took several days off work and did not go to the gym as much this past week. I still managed to meet my calories burned goal on SparkPeople.com.

Monday: walked .77 miles in 14:07
Tuesday: ran 3.24 miles in 35:00; biked .63 miles in 10:35
Wednesday: walked 1.53 miles in 29:15
Thursday: ran 3.38 miles in 35:00
Friday: biked 5.88 miles in 26:38
Saturday: ran 5.91 miles in 65:00

I had a bit of a scary moment during the Saturday run - I felt really chilly with 9 minutes left on the treadmill. I slowed down a bit and drank out of my water bottle more often. I did not feel dizzy or sick, just cold. It may have been a blast of the gym AC but I've never felt cold during exercise in the summer, even indoors. I stretched and went out to my car, I felt a bit of a chill but that was not unusual. That was just the breeze on wet skin. I took a cool shower when I came home, ate some yogurt and took a nap. I'm drinking more water - Ozarka Sport Vitamin Enhanced.

Next week's plan:
Monday - strength training and 10 minute row
Tuesday - 30 minute run
Wednesday - strength training and cycling 3 miles
Thursday - 30 minute run
Friday - strength training and 15 minute row
Saturday - 60 minute run

I need to check the date for the Harbor Half in Corpus Christi so that I can start training for it. This will be the first half marathon that I train for rather than relying on left over conditioning from marathon training.
