Drivel that cannot fit in a single panel comic.

Thursday, April 28, 2005

I walked 9,513 steps/ 7.13 kilometers.

I scanned the latest multi-panel cartoon but I've not finished the coloring or lettering. This comic will go up next Thursday. That should give me a chance to build a small backlog of multi-panel strips. No superheroes this week.

I begin teaching Sunday school for 4 weeks starting this Sunday. The curriculum is about Islam. Muslim university students will be doing a lot of the lessons. I will learn as much as the kids.

My multi-panel cartoons are behind schedule but I have a backlog of single panels. I'll post a single panel tomorrow instead of the usual multi-panel.

I walked 9,622 steps/ 7.21 kilometers.

My back is a little stiff but I can function normally. I won't do a back bridge tomorrow.

I walked 11,158 steps/ 8.36 kilometers. I hurt my back at the gym. I was doing a back bridge. Right now, I feel pretty good because of the pain pill and Mike's Hard Lemonade. I also have a patch on the sore spot.

I do not expect my musings to be coherent. So this is how Hunter S. Thompson felt as he wrote. Gonzo blogger, yeah that's me!

Ha! I'm so @#$%! mundane.

Lev sent me a nice e-mail about my cartoons and Sears catalog. Check out his website at
http://www.ingredientx.com

My computer did a spontaneous restart while I was working on my updates. Fortunately Ctrl-S is mostly a reflex for me. I did not lose any work.

Walter and I went on a safari in our backyard. We are lucky to live in an area that is not too strict about yard care. Our backyard is very natural. Walter does some trimming and I pull some weeds but we pretty much leave it alone. The whole thing is quite dynamic. Plants grow and die as the temperatures change. The birds and squirrels like it. In the far corners of the back yard the city almost disappears. The screams and grunts of slightly evolved vaginal discharges at play and bad Tejano music wafting from two houses over serve as the only reminders of the city.

It looks like I'll have a bumper crop of blackberries. Assuming the birds don't get to them first.

Our philosophy about yard care is that if it needs any attention from us in order to grow then it does not belong. Walter mows the front yard when necessary and I pull weeds. Walter tried some broadleaf herbicide on the thistles but that only made them grow twisty. I think the thistles are taunting us. Perhaps they are the ones playing the bad Tejano music.

I don't hate children. I hate bad Tejano music. How much tequila was involved for someone to think to combine country/ western with polka? How much was involved for them to record and distribute this Frankenstein-like abomination of a music genre in Spanish?

I did enjoy some Tejano music once. It was at my brother's 40th birthday party. One of his in-laws put some on the sound system. By that time I had finished my 6th alcoholic beverage.

I only hate bad Tejano music when sober and not at a party.

This week I ran 9.91 miles, burned 1,263.3 calories and weigh 156.8 pounds.

I ran in the Coach Tom Chandler Memorial 5K in 32 minutes, 58 seconds. Not too bad for a first 5K. I ran a bit faster than my usual 12 minute mile. Toward the end my stomach felt queasy and I thought I was going to puke after crossing the finish line. That has never happened to me on longer runs. I recovered quickly.

I placed third in my age group (women 30 - 39). I received a trophy. With about 50 runners total, the odds of me placing were pretty good.

It was a fun, short race. It was nice to see a lot of kids participating.

Thursday, April 21, 2005

I walked 13,272 steps/ 9.95 kilometers.

I finished a work project before deadline. I don't have to deal with it tomorrow. Hooray!

My neck and shoulder is sore and my knee has been acting up today. All on the left side of my body.

I'm not anticipating this 5K race too much. It is more of an afterthought. Sort of "Oh yeah, I'm running a 5K on Saturday." After the race I'll check and see if Kung Fu Hustle is playing locally. On Friday the the first season of Red vs. Blue will be playing at the theater on campus. Walter and I are going to check it out. Oh yeah, I've got a race on Saturday.

Maybe my lack of excitement about this race is that there was no training (outside my usual running) involved, my signing up was spur of the moment, the distance is short and instead of a road trip it is simply a break in the routine. Run the race and then be home and cleaned up in an hour.

It will be interesting to see what speed I run without the treadmill controls dictating my pace.

I registered for a 5K race. It will be this Saturday at 8:00 am. This will be my first 5K.

While registering for that race on Active.com I found a marathon in Waco that I am interested in running. It is October 23rd. I will have to start training for that race by August 1.

I walked 8,988 steps/ 6.74 kilometers.

I was in a bad mood at work. I was doing some revisions on a document. I don't know why but my boss' revisions irritate me. A number of the revisions are aesthetic and do not improve things or violate some of my personal rules of style. I have received revisions from others and have not been irritated by them. Probably because they deal with content and the ocassional grammar or spelling error that I do not catch. I'm allowed to deal with the aesthetics.

I need to let it go. Next time, take a deep breath and realize that it is just an ephemeral document. Nobody cares about the spacing between bulleted and numbered list items. Nobody gives a damn about the horizontal alignment of titles. It is not worth getting irritated about.

Everytime a headline about the Cardinals meeting appears I think of the baseball team. Of course I would, since I am a heathen Protestant. All those old men in their little red dresses are so cute.

Maybe the baseball team should pick the next Pope.

Better yet, make it a new reality show: Pick the Pope. It has a nice alliterative ring to it. It can be done like American Idol. Let everyone participate not just the Catholics. We could end up with a Rastafarian with a great voice, cool dreadlocks and the ability to play a mean set of steel drums as the head of the Catholic Church.

Pope Ziggy Marley.

I'm sure Jesus loves Reggae.

I rode a bike for 30 minutes and used the rowing machine for 5 minutes. It was a good workout. I did have a bit of a brain fart. I packed two different running shoes in my gym bag and they were both left shoes. I ended up wearing my street shoes.

I packed a matching pair of running shoes.

Yesterday I walked 6,219 steps/ 4.66 kilometers.

I skipped the gym because of a meeting. Meeting is a too business-like term to describe it. Anyway, it was a very worthwhile and useful experience. A lot of progress was made and some healing began.

This meeting lasted several hours, although it did not seem that way. The person facilitating was very kind to stay so long.

I still have some things to work out internally but there is a direction.

It is going to be an interesting year.

I could use a good workout this evening.

I stopped at chapter 3 last night. I was still quite restless so I watched some Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network. I also took a sleeping pill.

My alarm clock did not go off this morning. I'll have to check on it. At least I did not wake up feeling groggy.

I have an performance evaluation tomorrow! Better make sure the alarm clock really works.

This week I ran 16.41 miles, burned 2,065.1 calories and weigh 157.8 pounds.

I bought a Star Trek: The Next Generation book. I might start acquiring TNG books again to get my fix for more TNG. I'll have to keep an eye out for them at garage sales. Not reading the book in one sitting will be very difficult. I do have to get some sleep and go to work in the morning.

I noticed that Pocket Books has put out a Star Trek Titan series. These books follow the events of Star Trek: Nemesis. I'm not sure I'm ready for several new characters.

I'm also interested in reading a series whose titles are based on a passage in Ecclesiastes. My favorite favorite book of the Old Testament combined with my all time favorite TV show. These books occur before Nemesis. Barnes and Noble had all of them except for the first. I'll have to go look on half.com.

I'm rather excited about getting reaquainted with old friends. This could be my escape from the stress of the upcoming year. The cartoons are therapeutic but this is something that only I would get benefit from. No audience, no schedule, no writing, no drawing, scanning, coloring. This would be simple pleasure - there is no personal growth expected - this will not change my life. If that happens - it happens but I'm not looking for it. Pure pleasure reading.

I walked 8,650 steps/ 6.48 kilometers.

I posted a new cartoon and updated some links.

I'm going to bed.

A major thunderstorm hit last night so I did not post a new cartoon. A new cartoon will appear this evening.

I walked 7,237 steps/ 5.42 kilometers yesterday.

I slept very well last night despite the efforts of my mother-in-law, who slept over before her trip. She enjoys these trips and likes to get up very early and leave the house in plenty of time to get to the airport. This is not a major airport - this is a small regional airport. 30 minutes is more than adequate amount ot time to get to this airport and check in but she wants to make sure to have plenty of time in case of problems on the way to the airport. Problems such as a flat tire, getting pulled over by the police, an alien invasion and a second flat tire.

I slept through two phones ringing, the bird singing, my mother-in-law getting ready, my mother-in-law playing the gourd for 15 minutes, Walter and his mother leaving the house, and Walter coming back in. I was awakened by my alarm at 6:00 am. Walter was sleeping beside me. I asked him if he had come and gone and he related all the things that had gone on while I was sleeping. My mother-in-law did very well, much better than the previous trip. I sleep very heavily when I get to sleep and I am extremely cross when awakened before the designated time. Walter did a great job in getting that point across to his mother.

The weather outside is glorious. Quite a contrast to last night.

I pray that all potential suicide bombers suffer from agoraphobia and/or ochlophobia. If not that then perhaps a formation of a service that matches suicide bombers to crowds. For example, a Ku Klux Klan rally would be a good place for a suicide bomber. It would be a win-win situation.
