I walked 3,815 steps yesterday. I was having trouble with Blogger last night.
Salvador was well behaved at church. He chirped through most of the service. He did keep quiet during the quiet parts of the service. He did not like the clapping too much. Most of the dogs were curious about the noise he was making.
All the animals got along. We had dogs, cats, a fish and a bird. It was a nice service.
The goofy spam names are at home. I have quite a long list. Hopefully, there won't be any problems with Blogger when I get home. I would like to clear out my deleted items folder.

This week I ran 29.15 miles, burned 3,326.1 calories and weigh 166.2 pounds.
I got the order of service copied for church tomorrow. Animals are going to be blessed. We are bringing Salvador but I'm still undecided about Daisy. She could certainly use some blessing. She could also use a bath and toenail clipping. Actually, today is the scheduled dog washing day. Unfortunately, the weather outside is a bit nasty. It looks like it is tub time. Oh joy.
Daisy has a super power. If she does not want to move she can double or more her weight. It is amazing.
A silent memorial for departed pets is also part of the service.
Salvador has developed an unusual attachment to the toaster. He attacked Walter when he attempted to toast some pop tarts.
One day we are going to leave the house and forget to put up Salvador and we will come home and find everything was stolen except the toaster. The house will be empty except for Salvador, the toaster and a large pool of blood.
Sal serenades the toaster. We have to keep a towel on top of the toaster because Sal will roost there. We keep the toaster unplugged when not in use for Sal's safety.
Salvador is such a silly bird.

I walked 2,811 steps yesterday, in addition to running over 4 miles.
I watched the debate last night. John Kerry won, in my opinion. He was more articulate and got his points across. That just means he is better at debate than George Bush.
The president had some pauses and stammers but that does not mean he is stupid as some on the left would paint him. He is not as good as John Kerry in that kind of event. If Kerry and Bush participated in a foot race, Bush would win; he is the better runner. If it was a bicycle race, Kerry would win; Kerry is the better cyclist.
Debate is just one of many skills needed to run the country. I'm not sure if it is the most important.
I wonder how Calvin Coolidge would fare in a modern presidential campaign?
There was one long pause that got the attention of the John Stewart of the Daily Show. It was a long pause that did not enhance Bush's perceived intelligence. A lot of people are not used to seeing someone pause, think then speak. I think it scares them.
I disagree with a number of Bush's policies and I think he is wrong about some things but I do not think he is stupid or evil. Actually, his cabinet and advisors concern me more. His style of public speaking has some similarities to my own. I would probably stammer and pause just as much if not more.
The funny thing is that the President possesses many strengths that would make him a great asset in an Unitarian-Universalist congregation or even as a minister in just about any religion. George W. Bush a great asset to our congregation!?! We can learn from George W. Bush and our congregations would benefit from having people like George W. Bush as members. That thought would horrify a lot of UUs and possibly get me excommunicated.
The crappy part about the first principle, the word every. F*ck*ng inconvenient. There are those that question 'every' but that is a UU hallmark. Sometimes I question the 'every' part of the first principle after listening to a pundit for about two minutes. Especially James Carville. James Carville, proof positive that even hideously ugly people can succeed, marry and even have sex with somewhat attractive people. That is good news for the one daughter that inherited his looks. This brings up the questions, can a person commit acts so horrible that they lose their inherent worth and dignity and who is qualified to judge? I'll ramble about that some other time.
Back to the topic, George W. Bush possesses some interpersonal skills that would be great on a membership committee or as a greeter. I've read and heard stories that when Bush is interacting with a person, he is very interested and focused on that person. He does not try to persuade or push an agenda, he listens and then acts if necessary. It is a skill that would make more visitors to our services stay and become members. To be fair, Bill Clinton also possesses similar people skills. People skills are yet another set of skills needed to run the country. How important, is up to debate.
I think that John Kerry has a greater balance of skills necessary to run the country. He may be be a *ssh*le (pure speculation - I have no evidence to support that assertion. I'm just trying to make a point about skill sets) in the personal skills department but I think he has other strengths that are more important in running a country. Besides, he has John Edwards to shore up those weaknesses. I'm more interested in removing Bush's cabinet and advisors, especially John Ashcroft.
If John Kerry makes the situation in Iraq or in the world worse, I will fully expect the members of my congregation to protest just as loudly as they do against George W. Bush. I will call them on it and if they pull "but this is different, he's a Democrat" sh*t, I'll ... honestly, I don't know what I would do. I've got too much invested in my church to resign over something as stupid as politics and the UU religious movement is too important to be impacted by political winds. Too many people need what we have to offer. No, it is not a refuge from the 'oppressive conservative atmosphere' of the greater community. God, I'm tired of hearing that sh*t. It is something more important, deeper and personal than that.
This Sunday, I'll try to be more like George W. Bush.

I walked 6,010 steps.
Walter bought me a Brian, from Family Guy, action figure at RMTranscon. It is really cool. It is sitting on top of my computer speakers.
I visited my mother yesterday, for her birthday. I ate so much food that I was miserable.
Today, I ate lunch with Walter and his mother. It was kind of a slow day at work but it is good to have slow days once in a while.
I'm still compiling my first list of panels to send to United Media. The folks at rec.arts.comicstrips were helpful in directing me to some names to address my cover. It is better to address names rather than titles.
I just finished reading a report and right now I feel a little underappreciated. I feel underappreciated for myself and Walter. Of course, a lot has happened since the information for that report was compiled. All things are fleeting, including these feelings.

This week I ran 25.97 miles, burned 3,065.2 calories and weigh 166.4 pounds.
I completed my 11 mile run in 2 hours and 13 minutes. Compared to my 10 mile run last week which was finished in 2 hours and 8 minutes. Amazing what a difference the weather can make.
We did not get the expected thunderstorms from Ivan's remnants but we did get some rain. The cloud cover lowered the temperatures and running in the rain was nice.
I put together the order of service for church. This week we are doing the monthly global chalice lighting, a chalice lighting reading from Unitarian-Universalist churches around the world. This one is from India and it is long. I'm not sure how the congregation is going to react to this one. I won't be there to find out. I'll be on my way to Houston.
I wanted to attend this service because a woman from Iraq will be speaking.

I walked 6,109 steps. I went to the student recreation center to get a map of the walking and running trails on campus. There was only one copy. I took it and made more copies. I had to make phone calls to find out where the maps were located. The person at the other end had to call me back with that information. Somebody in Rec Sports could scan the map and make a PDF file available for download and printing from their web site. I guess that would defeat the purpose of getting people to walk.
I sent an e-mail to the local classic rock station complaining about the lack of classic rock on the morning show. It is third rate comedy and on rare occassions when commercial time was not sold, a song.

Who is telling the morning DJs that they are funny? Who is listening to this crap? Where can I find these people and smack some sense into them?
Another radio station has hired another comedian wanna-be for its morning show. This one is not nearly as bad as the others. At least he plays a substantial amount of music between the "comedy". The radio station makes him play music. If left to his own devices he would just do his "comedy".
Morning DJs should act like the rest of the day DJs. Play music, share important information, play a few commercials to pay the bills then shut the hell up.
If I wanted to hear talking, I would listen to NPR or Rush Limbaugh. Rush Limbaugh plays more music than some of the morning shows. Rush is funnier than most morning show DJs.

I walked 5,031 steps. I had a good day at work. I felt so relaxed.
I've been in the contemplation stage of change regarding my job. My job is good but it is not something I want to do forever. I feel like I'm in a rut. I am working on my resume. It is a small step toward action that will lead to change. It is less intimidating to do this in small steps.
If someone wants to hire me to draw, design and/or write funny stuff, I'll take a leap at the right opportunity.
There are no goofy spam names because I got impatient and caused IE to crash before Blogger could finish publishing the original version of this post. I've erased all the spam for the day.

I taught my first Sunday school class. It went well. Most of the success should be credited to my co-teacher. She was very good at directing the kids in discussion. I'm looking forward to next week.
The kids were given a homework assignment, that I did not know about, beforehand. They were to come up with names to describe themselves. I call myself "She who runs like a tortoise". It will probably be shortened to "Runs like Tortoise". Slow and steady and finish the race.
The curriculum is a native American thing. Respect the earth and all living beings, just like the native Americans. We won't mention that they were not vegetarians. The native Americans are just as human as other people groups; compassionate, generous, brutal and greedy but we won't mention that. We will just focus on their reverence for the earth and all its creatures living and non-living.
There is a large industry devoted to connecting white people to native American traditions. Become one with nature, connect with the spirit, find your inner animal, simplify. It is the "noble savage" of James Fenimore Cooper and other 19th century romantics but only on a larger, more commercial scale. Mark Twain would have had a field day with the CDs, dream catchers, books, and other merchandise. At least Cooper confined his romantic notions to fiction. I wonder what Mark Twain would make of the new age spirituality that is growing in American society of the 21st century?
The kids are too young to understand the absurdity of this curriculum. For them it is just fun and a cool way to look at things through other eyes. I will try my best to enjoy it in the same light. Maybe as they grow, they will be able to integrate it with their own white, American, middle class upbringing and be able to appreciate both without being forced to feel guilty about being white, middle class Americans. One should feel guilty for wrongs that one has done and try to atone for them but how do you atone for fair skin and fortunate circumstances? All you can do is give something back. But wouldn't it be better to do it out of gratitude instead of guilt?
I'm tired of this notion in Unitarian-Universalist circles that only Native Americans can truly appreciate the earth and that white people are not capable of reverence for the earth without invoking the traditions of native peoples. Maybe this notion exists to help atone for the sins of our ancestors. I will atone for my own sins and while I respect and enjoy learning about native American traditions, I don't @#$%! need their traditions to tell me to respect the earth. Respect for the earth is part of the traditions I grew up with. My traditions do not anthromorphize every aspect of the earth but I can damn well appreciate its beauty, bounty, treat it with respect, try to minimize my impact and encourage others to do the same without going around thinking that a spirit is in every single damn rock, pebble and grain of sand.
Nobody ever talks about the spirit that inhabits shit. Shit is part of nature. Everything in nature has a spirit inside it, according to the native American traditions as appropriated and perverted by guilt-stricken, new age, white people. Yet, the great shit spirit is never prayed to, there are no CDs filled with songs of the great shit spirit, shit totems, dolls nor other merchandise. Jack shit for shit. Come on, shit fueled the fires that the native Americans danced around, told stories by and warmed themselves as they pondered the mysteries of the universe. The fire spirit has songs sung about it and the fire spirit is prayed to but nothing for the shit that fueled the fire. Perhaps, the native Americans had a sense of perspective about these things. Maybe all of nature does not need to be worshiped in order to appreciate nature in general.
The next Sunday School assignment it to bring something from nature to the altar. Maybe I'll bring one of Daisy's turds.
No, I won't inflict any of this on the kids. I'll enjoy building the shields with them, listening to their stories as they search for their own truth and meaning, learning from them and hopefully making a small positive difference in their lives. There will be plenty of time for guilt to be thrust upon them.
White people nearly wiped out native Americans then poorly appropriate parts of their cultures. At least they have casinos to avenge the injustices against their ancestors.
The Sunday school curriculum is making me think. My thoughts may not go in the direction they are expected to go but in Unitarian-Universalism they are allowed to go in any direction within the confines of the 7 principles and there is not a damn thing anyone can do about it.
Stick that in your peace pipe and smoke it.

Blogger ate another post. I walked over 8,000 steps yesterday. There was only one goofy spam name and no Zen Koans.
It looks like our adoption of a Quaker parrot and/or a Cockatoo will not happen. The lady wants to keep them together so -they are going to another home. I guess if it does not work out then we are next in line. Right now, one bird is proving to be a handful. I have to keep Salvador off the back of my monitor to prevent him from chewing printer and monitor cords. He is walking around my mouse and+ keyboard chewing on my mousepad and a small white board I keep at my desk. That is why there are random letters and symbols appearing in this post. I used to write small notes on the white board but since Sal has chewed up most of the writing surface I have it as a chewing surface and perch for Sal. It keeps the bird poo off the keyboard.
I start teaching Sunday school tomorrow. Pray for me and the kids.
This week I ran 22 miles, burned 2,619.8 calories and weigh 167.1 pounds. So far this year I have ran 487 miles and burned 63,039 calories.
Dinner is ready, I'm starved, let's eat.

I walked 7,905 steps. I did not get Labor Day off.
A digital video camera was stolen from my locked office over the weekend. They did not take the regular digital camera. A projector that was bolted to the ceiling of one of the classrooms was also stolen.
I told Walter to keep an eye out for someone trying to pawn a projector with half a fastener on it.
We went swimming with the Sunday school kids yesterday. It was a lot of fun. The slides were fun and I used some seldom used muscles trying to cross on a floating bridge. If you weigh more than 50 pounds it was quite impossible to cross without falling off.
I was concerned about a 'wardrobe malfunction' occurring while I was sliding and splashing around. I was shaped quite differently when I bought my swimsuit two years ago. It had loosened at the top quite a bit. The shoulder straps rubbed the sunscreen off part of my shoulders and I got quite a burn. Blistered but not painful. That is unusual.

On Friday, I walked 4,310 steps. This week I ran 18.56 miles, burned 2217.3 calories and weigh 167.1 pounds.
Today we visited a couple of birds that we might be adopting. They seemed like very nice and sweet birds. The Cockatoo is going to someone else on a trial basis but if that does not work out then we are next in line. It looks like we have a shot at the Quaker parrot. The Quaker is very attached to its current human so it will take a lot of patience. The lady's husband is having a liver transplant and will not be allowed to live with birds. She is quite upset about the whole thing wants to be sure that her birds end up in a nice home. We hope that we can adopt both the birds.
I'm taking a Yoga class once a week to improve my flexibility and balance.
I ran 7 miles in less than a hour and a half. My goal time was 1-1/2 hours. During the last quarter mile my right hamstring was trying to knot up. It still is quite sore. I've been stretching it. Maybe tonight, I can get a massage.
Yes, my life is as boring as this blog. All in all, I like it that way. People with boring lives are the only ones that have time to blog.

I walked 9,744 steps. I spent a lot of time going back and forth between the copier and my office. I will be burning up the copier some more tomorrow.
For some reason Blogger ate the first draft of this post. It was a boring post about my classroom equipment and the coolness of the equipment in the engineering classroom that was used yesterday.
My equipment is mostly repaired and is functioning with some modifications in operation. I don't know how long that condition is going to last.
I have started inquires about an upgrade.
My classroom may have old equipment but it does have access to fresh brewed coffee.
The goofy spam names were deleted after I published the original post.
Tomorrow, God willing, will be another opportunity for me to live, love and learn better.

I walked 3,458 steps.
It was the first day of classes. It was not too hectic. Only a computer completely choking right before a class. The class was held in a different classroom across campus and the IT people are going to look at the computer.
This lead to me putting in some overtime. I get comp time rather than money. I might get more next Monday, assuming that the computer is fixed and we can actually use the AV equipment in the classroom.
I like the equipment in the other classroom better. My classroom really needs an upgrade. The computer that runs the AV equipment is running on Windows 98.

This week I ran 18.94 miles, burned 2143.7 calories and weigh 168.1 pounds.
I had a great run this morning. My endurance has improved.
I dreamt last night about Rusty. He was laying on the floor looking at me and I was rubbing his belly and chest. His eyes were bright and he was in the peak of health. Maybe the story about our purpose in life is learning to love unconditionally and that the reason that our pet's lives are so short compared to ours is because they are born knowing how to love unconditionally has a bit of truth to it.
From 1:30 am to about 5:30 am I was waking up every thirty minutes. A vivid dream, wake up, look at the clock, go back to sleep and start the cycle again.
I'm going to lie down now.

On Wednesday I walked 2,083 steps and on Thursday 3,989.
I've been doing a couple of late nights so my updates to the website have been minimal. I will have a long list of goofy spam names tonight.
Today is the beginning of the beatings. Actually, the beatings only happen in my mind. That is how I keep my job and sanity.
It is a well publicized fact that the first day of classes at the university is August 30. This information has been available for quite some time. Also the list of classes that faculty members are going to teach has been available for quite some time.
I was partially mentally prepared for the onslaught of course material preparations that I will be doing today but I'm still dumbstruck that these people wait until the last minute. This happens every semester but after 8 years it has not become less annoying.
No, I'm not working over the weekend. My giving a damn hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 12:00 pm; 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm. At 5:01 pm I no longer care or at least receive comp time for any giving a damn after hours.
Time to make the copies.

I find myself glancing at the entryway every morning looking for Rusty. We received a nice sympathy card from the vet.
The Dallas Marathon has updated its website. It looks like it is going to be a great race. The course time limit is 7.5 hours. I finished Houston in 6:08 hours. There is also a Clydesdale/Athena class (men 200+ pounds - women 160+ pounds). Looking at last year's results in that class I could place quite well.
My goal is to shave 15 - 30 minutes off my Houston time.

I walked 3,270 steps.
Walter and I ate dinner at the table with the TV off. It was nice. It will require a bit of discipline for both of to do this on a regular basis. The hardest part will be to keep the table clear when we are not eating. A clear horizontal surface is a rare thing in our house.
Actually I have shelves hung up without anything on them. I've not taken the stuff to go on the shelves out of storage.

I watched Underworld on DVD. It's a movie with vampires and werewolves. That's about it.
I successfully completed the 5 mile run in an hour. It was very humid today. I'm still tired despite taking a nap.
A thunderstorm blew in suddenly. It was clear sky at 3:00 then at 3:40 thunder and lightning. I let Daisy in. She can alter the aroma of a room but she is a sweet girl. She was limping the other day, so I gave her some of Rusty's left over anti-immflamatory medication. It looks like it worked.

Tomorrow I do a real training long run with the marathon training group. My knee has stopped hurting. I was able to run this past week. This will be a 5 mile run.
My mother-in-law left this morning. She almost knocked the door to our bedroom down when she was trying to wake up Walter. He was awake by the second knock. So was I. He kindly informed that in the future a couple of gentle knocks on the door would be sufficient.
I have a Pavlovian bladder. I wake up, I need to pee. I went at 4:00 am and again at 6:30 when I woke up the second time. I don't know where the fluid from the 6:30 piss came from. I did not drink anything after 4:00. It is just something hard wired - wake up - pee.

My mother-in-law is here. She is having her sister give her a wake-up call at 5:00 AM Eastern time. We live in the Central Time Zone. Luckily, we cannot hear the phone when the bedroom door is closed. Actually, I sleep quite heavily. I probably won't hear her leave at all. I hope she has a great time with her sisters in Biloxi.

I'm going to clean the bathroom in preparation for my mother-in-law. Actually, the bathroom kind of needs it with or without visiting mother-in-law.
I wrote the article for church. It needs more work. I hope the rest of the committee will step in.
I admit it. I'm a procrastinator. I've been meaning to work on that. I was successful in school simply because I put tasks on a daily to do list. I did not put this article on the to do list. I don't pay attention to the to do list as much. At least I don't inflict major guilt upon myself if I don't finish everything. There is not as much at stake with an incomplete to do list as there was in the past.
Putting things on my to do list greatly increases the odds of it getting done in a somewhat timely fashion.
Thanks to all the people who have posted comments on this blog. I'm glad it is getting noticed.

I'm took the day off. I did not get enough sleep last night. I ate a lot of meat at a party, which led to nasty gas pains at 2:00 am. I did not fall back asleep until 5:30 am. I stayed home with Rusty today. His mobility has gotten worse. I walked 6,152 steps. I also ran a little over 5 miles.
I did some research on the web and found a company that makes wheelchairs for dogs. The wheelchairs come in all sizes. I'm going to take Rusty's measurements tomorrow and submit a request for a refurbished chair. A new one costs $300 with shipping. We will get a new one if a refurbished model is not available.
I will set up a fundraising site for Rusty's wheels. We will also be selling things on eBay to raise money for the wheels. For those who donate $5.00 or more I will mail some original cartoon artwork. These are the panels before they get scanned, colored and lettered. My handwritten notes are in the margins of a lot of them.
After Rusty has used his wheels, we will send them back to the company that built them so that another dog can regain mobility.

I received this via e-mail. It is a mailing from Progressive Review, an e-mail newsletter from GopherCentral.
Anybody but Bush - and then let's get back to work
Naomi Klein
Last month, I reluctantly joined the Anybody But Bush camp. It was "Bush in a Box" that finally got me, a gag gift my brother gave my father on his 66th birthday. Bush in a Box is a cardboard cut-out of President 43 with a set of adhesive speech balloons featuring the usual tired Bushisms: "Is our children learning?" "They misunderestimated me" - standard-issue Bush-bashing schlock, on sale at Wal-Mart, made in Malaysia.
Yet Bush in a Box filled me with despair. It's not that the president is dumb, which I already knew, it's that he makes us dumb. Don't get me wrong: my brother is an exceptionally bright guy; he heads a think-tank that publishes weighty policy papers on the failings of export-oriented resource extraction and the false savings of cuts to welfare. Whenever I have a question involving interest rates or currency boards, he's my first call. But Bush in a Box pretty much summarises the level of analysis coming from the left these days. You know the line: The White House has been hijacked by a shady gang of zealots who are either insane or stupid or both. Vote Kerry and return the country to sanity.
But the zealots in Bush's White House are neither insane nor stupid nor particularly shady. Rather, they openly serve the interests of the corporations that put them in office with bloody-minded efficiency. Their boldness stems not from the fact that they are a new breed of zealot but that the old breed finds itself in a newly unconstrained political climate. We know this, yet there is something about George Bush's combination of ignorance, piety and swagger that triggers a condition in progressives I've come to think of as Bush Blindness. When it strikes, it causes us to lose sight of everything we know about politics, economics and history and to focus exclusively on the admittedly odd personalities of the people in the White House. Other side-effects include delighting in psychologists' diagnoses of Bush's warped relationship with his father and brisk sales of Bush "dum gum" - $1.25.
This madness has to stop, and the fastest way of doing that is to elect John Kerry, not because he will be different but because in most key areas - Iraq, the "war on drugs", Israel/Palestine, free trade, corporate taxes - he will be just as bad. The main difference will be that as Kerry pursues these brutal policies, he will come off as intelligent, sane and blissfully dull. That's why I've joined the Anybody But Bush camp: only with a bore such as Kerry at the helm will we finally be able to put an end to the presidential pathologising and focus on the issues again. Of course, most progressives are already solidly in the Anybody But Bush camp, convinced that now is not the time to point out the similarities between the two corporate- controlled parties. I disagree. We need to face up to those disappointing similarities, and then we need to ask ourselves whether we have a better chance of fighting a corporate agenda pushed by Kerry or by Bush.
I have no illusions that the left will have "access" to a Kerry/Edwards White House. But it's worth remembering that it was under Bill Clinton that the progressive movements in the west began to turn our attention to systems again: corporate globalisation, even - gasp - capitalism and colonialism. We began to understand modern empire not as the purview of a single nation, no matter how powerful, but a global system of interlocking states, international institutions and corporations, an understanding that allowed us to build global networks in response, from the World Social Forum to Indymedia. Innocuous leaders who spout liberal platitudes while slashing welfare and privatising the planet push us to better identify those systems and to build movements agile and intelligent enough to confront them. With Mr Dum Gum out of the White House, progressives will have to get smart again, and that can only be good.
Some argue that Bush's extremism actually has a progressive effect because it unites the world against the US empire. But a world united against the United States isn't necessarily united against imperialism. Despite their rhetoric, France and Russia opposed the invasion of Iraq because it threatened their own plans to control Iraq's oil. With Kerry in power, European leaders will no longer be able to hide their imperial designs behind easy Bush-bashing, a development already forecast in Kerry's odious Iraq policy. Kerry argues that we need to give "our friends and allies ... a meaningful voice and role in Iraqi affairs", including "fair access to the multibillion-dollar reconstruction contracts. It also means letting them be a part of putting Iraq's profitable oil industry back together."
Yes, that's right: Iraq's problems will be solved with more foreign invaders, with France and Germany given a greater "voice" and a bigger share of the spoils of war. No mention is made of Iraqis, and their right to a "meaningful voice" in the running of their own country, let alone of their right to control their oil or to get a piece of the reconstruction. Under a Kerry government, the comforting illusion of a world united against imperial aggression will drop away, exposing
the jockeying for power that is the true face of modern empire. We'll also have to let go of the archaic idea that toppling a single man, or a Romanesque "empire", will solve all, or indeed any, of our problems. Yes, it will make for more complicated politics, but it has the added benefit of
being true. With Bush out of the picture, we lose the galvanising enemy, but we get to take on the actual policies that are transforming all of our countries.
The other day, I was ranting to a friend about Kerry's vicious support for the apartheid wall in Israel, his gratuitous attacks on Hugo Chavez in Venezuela and his abysmal record on free trade. "Yeah," he agreed sadly. "But at least he believes in evolution." So do I - the much- needed evolution of our progressive movements. And that won't happen until we put away the fridge magnets and Bush gags and get serious. And that will only happen once we get rid of the distraction-in-chief. So Anybody But Bush. And then let's get back to work.

This week I ran 14.94 miles, burned 1,914.7 calories and weigh 168.2 pounds.
Went to the Thunderbirds movie. It was fun and stayed pretty true to puppet show. The story focused mostly on Alan Tracey and his quest to become a member of the team. Ben Kingsley did a decent job as The Hood. The opening credits used a really cool animation style. The movie was directed by Jonathan Frakes from Star Trek:TNG. I would like to rent the DVD to check out the bonus features.
Right now, I'm not wearing any underpants.

I received some sad news about a friend. Still in a bit of disbelief about it. He is survived by his wife and mother and maybe some siblings. Please pray for them.

The weather is back to normal.
Yesterday I walked 3,712 steps and today I walked 4,809.
There was a neat Thunderbirds movie on Plex. The closing credits featured the Royal Marine Band playing the theme music. It was quite cool.
I'm looking forward to the live action movie.

It was so cool last night that I had to sleep under a blanket. We slept with the bedroom window open. There is a large cedar tree right in front of the window. I did not want to get out of my warm bed this morning.
It may be another cool night, tonight.
Is it really July in Texas?
I took 4,480 steps while wearing my stepometer. I had to keep it in my pocket today because my pants have become bigger. The waist of my pants was too loose for the stepometer to detect my steps. These pants used to be a bit tight. I'm glad that my clothes fit much looser. I need to take some new measurements.

The Altoid that I just had is off-setting the taste of the tap water I am drinking. We are out of bottled water but I am thirsty and do not want to drink more Coke at this hour.
A cool front blew in and it feels a bit like spring. The bedroom window is open and the house is actually cool. Is this really July in Texas?
Daisy is walking much better now. Aleve works great.
Rusty had a wound but it is much better. I think his legs are getting weaker. His appetite is still good and he does not appear to be in pain. I know that he is not going to live forever but I'm trying to avoid thinking about the end too much.

I walked 4,708 steps according to the step-o-meter.
Sometimes, I am embarrased about my religious affiliation. Check out uua.org The thing that bothers me is the use of an Abu Gharib image as an advertisng logo. It is a powerful image but a real human being suffered in that image. The cause is noble but using a person's suffering for commercial purposes is distasteful. At least those who use Christ's image for commercial purposes waited until he died and ascended. The man depicted in the logo may not appreciate being reduced to the level of the Nike swoosh or MicroSoft Windows logo. I certainly wouldn't. At least not without permission. I would also prefer to be depicted not suffering and be well compensated like Michael Jordan. It is a stretch to assume that the man in the Abu Gharib image meets the above criteria.
Against the backdrop the the whole war, occupation, scandal and everything my gripe about a logo is rather trivial. But I feel it violates the first UU principle, affirming the inherent dignity and worth of every person, to reduce a human being that has suffered so much to a mere advertising logo. It does not matter how noble the cause advertised.
I sent an e-mail to the the STOP campaign expressing these thoughts.
People do goofy things with great intentions. That is the risk one takes in undertaking a worthy cause.

My 150th post!
I walked 4,529 steps while wearing my step-o-meter. I had a great leg workout. I reached the limits that my quadriceps can handle right now. I managed to do 6 reps at 135 pounds on the leg extension machine but I was unable to complete 12 reps at 105 pounds after that. I also could no complete 12 reps on the 45 degree squat machine at 90 pounds. There is next week.

The spammers have been very uncreative lately and I've had other things to do.
I drew a simplified version of Willie Nelson for a cartoon. I was really thinking about the lyrics to Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys. There is a bit of Dao in that song.
What Willie was saying, in the song, is that cowboys are the embodiment of the unity of opposites. As to why that is a bad thing, I do not know. I suppose society needs doctors and lawyers and such.
Country music and Eastern religion intersect.
The lyrics:
Mama don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks
Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such
Mama don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
They'll never stay home and they're always alone
Even with someone they love
Cowboys ain't easy to love and they're harder to hold
And they'd rather give you a song then diamonds or gold
Lonestar belt buckles and old faded Levi's each night begins a new day
And if you don't understand him and he don't die young
He'll probly just ride away
Mama don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks
Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such
Mama don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
They'll never stay home and they're always alone
Even with someone they love
Cowboys like smokey old pool rooms and clear mountian moringin's
Little warm puppies and children and girls of the night
And them that don't know him won't like him
And them that do sometimes won't know how to take him
He ain't wrong he's just different
but his pride won't let him do things to make you think he's right
Mama don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks
Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such
Mama don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
They'll never stay home and they're always alone
Even with someone they love

I bathed the dogs and washed out their houses. They are a little miffed right now because their bedding is not dry and the houses are in the yard until the porch dries. Maybe they will sleep under the trees or bushes. It is a nice clear evening for a change.
At least the layer of dirt on the dogs will be fresh.

I got rid of the awards program and extraneous biographical data. The website is just going to focus on cartoons and clip art. I plan on moving into more continuing story lines.
I am also getting rid of unnecessary buttons. I want as much server space for art as possible. Plus the pages will load faster.
I will start by redrawing some old Whiz Bang stories then move into new ones featuring the old characters. It has been 10 years since I drew those old comics. The redraws might be quite different from the originals in terms of style and tone. I hope I have matured artistically and as a writer. It should be interesting.

I just found out that Ray Charles has died. A national treasure is gone.
I'll be spending my day off, courtesy of Mr. Reagan, mourning that loss. Ray Charles is someone who deserves a state funeral and the flags at half mast for a week.
I hope that his passing is not overshadowed by the Reagan funeral.
Rest in peace brother and thank you for the gift of your music. You taught my body to move and my soul to dance. Your music touched me.
Ray, you epitomized the best of America and humanity. The earth is diminished by your passing but heaven just improved 100%.
I will miss you.
UH-HUH!
